The Dongfeng EQ140, a classic model, has been introduced more than once by the Heavy Duty Truck Network. As a national truck, it has made great contributions to China's development. But today we will not talk about the EQ140 truck, but its brother model: the EQ340 dump truck. I believe many veteran drivers have driven this dump truck. Thanks to the Internet, the editor found an English version of the EQ340 dump truck data book. I believe this is an introduction prepared for export to foreign markets in the 1980s. It is very rare. As a model derived from EQ140, EQ340 inherits many advantages of 140. The front windshield has a larger area and the shorter front end improves the field of vision. In order to expand the lighting area when driving at night in mountainous areas, side lights are installed on both sides of the main headlights (with a 20-degree angle with the main headlights), which is very helpful for turning sharp corners. In order to improve the working conditions of the driver and solve the problem of the cab being stuffy in summer and cold in winter, the cab is equipped with a foam plastic carpet and ceiling with good heat insulation performance, and both front windshields can be opened.

Due to the use of a short dump truck body, the load capacity of the EQ340 is half a ton less than that of the EQ140, at only 4.5 tons. The empty vehicle weighs 4.7 tons, and the fully loaded gross weight is 9.45 tons. The vehicle dimensions (length x width x height): 6360x2405x2510, the wheelbase is 3950mm, and the volume of the truck body is 4.2 cubic meters.

The power system is the same as EQ140. The famous EQ6100 series engine has a displacement of 5.42 liters, a maximum output power of 135 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 352 Nm. According to the instructions of Second Automobile, when using No. 70 gasoline, the ignition advance should be strictly in accordance with the regulations of the automobile manual. It is strictly forbidden to use gasoline lower than No. 70, otherwise the piston top will sometimes burn out. The reason is the knocking during the combustion process of the engine. Using No. 76 gasoline or even No. 80 gasoline with a higher rating will not cause knocking.

In 1982, the compression ratio of the EQ6100 gasoline engine was increased from 6.75:1 to 7.0:1, the combustion chamber volume was reduced from 148.75ml to 137ml, the carburetor was changed to EQH102, the large throat diameter was reduced from 38 to 35.5, and the accelerator pump nozzle needle valve mechanism was changed to a steel ball spring mechanism, which improved the accelerator pump nozzle's automatic oil discharge at high engine speeds.

The maximum speed is also the same as the EQ140, which is 90 km/h. The five-speed manual transmission, of which the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears are equipped with synchronizers, makes gear shifting easier, which is also conducive to reducing the driver's physical exertion and fatigue, which is much easier than the contemporary Jiefang.

Although the EQ340 has a much smaller load capacity than the later Steyr 91 dump truck, its smaller body, lightness and flexibility make it shine in urban construction. It is not difficult to find the EQ340 in old books and even old newspapers in libraries in many cities.
